CURRENT WORK

My present body of paintings explores my interest in expressing myself through colour. I apply the paint in different ways, some very thin, some very thick, to create tension and ultimately the balance of the image, creating contrast not only within the colours but also within the curvilinear lines, shapes and forms. Flat colour contrasts with texture allowing relationships to develop and the overall mood of the image to emerge.

The completed images are usually part of a series as I develop an idea on different sizes and formats from very small to very large. Triptychs and series can be hung together to create either small or large groupings.

My graphic works on paper are lino cuts always in black and white. I love the development and process of making each print, from the initial designs through to the carving, inking up and pulling the final image. My graphic works explore pattern within the overall image and format.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Kenya, my Father was South African and my Mother is English. I was raised on a tea plantation in rural Kenya and grew up with the sights, sounds, colours and culture of Africa all around me. My sisters and I went to school in East Africa and then to England for further Education. I went to Art College in London and did my teaching Certificate in Sheffield. I have traveled all over Europe, East Africa and the Far East. Before moving to the Costa Blanca I lived in Andalucia. I love the light, architecture and the Moorish legacy that is in Spain. My work is in collections in United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, NewZealand, South Africa, Kenya, Canada.
